Through the collaborative effort of many, the restored 1874 Georgetown school reopened in Fall 2015 as the Georgetown Heritage Center, a place to celebrate our past, exhibit and practice traditional crafts and fine arts, hear lectures, enjoy live performances and other leisure activities, and hold meetings and conferences.
The anchor of the Heritage Center is a Local History Archive owned and operated by the Clear Creek County Library District, collecting the records, photographs, maps and other documentation of our past. Our local library sponsors film and children's programs.
The Cultural Arts Program uses several of the first floor classrooms to demonstrate, teach, and exhibit traditional folk artsand their modern adaptations, and provide cultural programming that was practiced and enjoyed by the diverse groups who created Georgetown during the 19th century mining boom and up to the modern day. Programs include local, regional, and visiting participants, and invite participation by our school and senior groups. Crafts and fine arts exhibits and classes are offered. The second-floor performance space holds concerts and performance events, planned by accomplished local musicians.
Colorado State University Extension Master Gardener program has created a local demonstration garden on the grounds, and holds regular gardening classes. Further landscaping will take place in the future.
Classroom space, conference room and Heritage Hall are available for rental on a short term basis, when not otherwise in use.
Our warmest thanks to our extensive list of donors and grantors, who have made this wonderful, community space happen.
The Heritage Center is a property of the Georgetown Trust for Conservation and Preservation, Inc, a Colorado non-profit, IRS tax exempt 501(c)(3)corporation. For more information call the Trust at 303.569.0289 or email us at email@example.com.
